About A Fix
LOGLINE
A young woman struggling with addiction becomes entangled with a dangerous drug dealer who
reminds her of the man who trafficked her mother years ago. As the walls between past and
present begin to crumble, she must confront the one thing she’s been running from all along…
herself.
SYNOPSIS
Iris Reyes is wiry, raw, and barely holding on; haplessly trapped living off the scraps of others,
numbing a past that keeps clawing its way back. She’s broke, addicted to heroin, and carrying
the weight of a mother whose own trauma has hardened into neglect.
But when Iris encounters Luca, a wounded drifter with an unexpected gentleness, something
shifts. Their chemistry is fragile but real; offering a glimpse of connection that feels, for once, not
transactional.
But after a chaotic, drug-fueled party nearly kills her, Iris wakes up alone in a strange motel
room. Luca is gone, and in his place is a man who calls himself Daddy. He offers her comfort,
protection, and a new dangerous high from fentanyl. Their dynamic grows increasingly
confusing, echoing patterns Iris learned too early: that love can be control, and safety comes at
a cost.
As her addiction deepens, so does her unraveling. Iris begins reliving the buried memories of
coercion, grooming, and emotional manipulation, cycles passed down from her mother, whose
own story was never fully told. She starts seeing visions of her dead brother, Domingo, whose
presence becomes both a compass and a reflection of her own fears.
In the background, a young female rookie cop battles institutional roadblocks in order to see Iris
as something more than the next arrest; as a person who deserves help.
Guided by grief, fueled by guilt and desperation, shadowed by the echoes of the woman who
came before her, Iris is forced to confront the one thing she’s avoided all her life: herself.
OVERVIEW
About a Fix is an unflinching look at addiction, human trafficking, and generational trauma, and
how they quietly exist beneath the surface of “normal” American life. Structured as both drama
and psychological thriller, the film is grounded in lived realities rarely depicted onscreen.
Drawing from years of experience within the world the film portrays, award-winning
writer/director Benjamin Hess brings an unsentimental honesty to a familiar subject, while
reframing it in a way that challenges audiences to confront what is usually ignored.
With the support of fiscal sponsorship, this film will be made with the care, safety, and resources
required to responsibly tell a story rooted in real trauma; while amplifying voices too often
overlooked. Your contribution directly enables a project committed not just to artistic ambition,
but to meaningful social impact and long-term community engagement.
THE PLAN
The backbone of the project is award-winning producer Elizabeth Mihelich, who brings years of

discipline, and grit required to handle the film’s emotional and psychological complexity with
care and precision.
Our funding plan includes a mix of private equity, grants, and strategic partnerships, alongside
individual contributions from supporters who believe in independent filmmaking, community-
driven storytelling, and the value of seeing our shared humanity reflected on screen.
