Trans frontwoman Sadie and her noise rock band fight to secure notoriety in the early 2000s Providence warehouse scene. When they’re finally booked at the nationally-recognized performance space in the city, their lives unknowingly careen toward danger, as the city’s mafia harbors an ancient secret in the abandoned building’s cavernous basement.

Queen of the Rats is the third feature film from the Monster Makeup Collective. A “period piece” about an era of Providence, Rhode Island when artists commandeered abandoned mills of the industrial revolution, turning them into havens for art, music, and its creators. It’s a parable about protecting community, celebrating art, and rejecting the insidious greed of gentrification.
